Dr. Michael DeShane, Ph.D., Owner and President
Michael began his Assisted Living career in 1983 when he and a partner began development of what was, at that time, a unique and innovative long-term care community. As a Managing Partner of Park Place Living Center Michael was a key player in the team that developed the initial design, staffing and operational characteristics of what has become nationally known as Assisted Living.
In addition, to pioneering the development of assisted living, Dr. DeShane’s experience includes the operation of HUD retirement housing and extensive market feasibility work. Prior to his work in long term care, Michael was an Assistant Professor and Research Associate at Portland State University in Oregon and at Office of Research at the State Department of Social & Health Services in Washington.
Michael holds an MA and Ph.D. in Urban Studies and Gerontology from Portland State University.
Over the years, Dr. DeShane has been appointed to national task forces, held several positions of office with leading industry associations, and has been honored as a recipient of the Distinguished Service Award by the American Association of Homes and Services for the Aging.
