Nursing homes, also known as skilled nursing or intermediate care facilities.
Nursing homes serve those who have become very frail and require round-the-clock nursing assistance. As a result, nursing homes are state licensed and must meet extensive state and federal requirements. Some people stay for a short time in a nursing home and then go home; others may stay for a longer period. Various medical services and different kinds of therapies (physical, occupational, and speech) may also be available on site. Some nursing homes also have special units for residents with dementia or Alzheimer's.
“All the things that are offered are more than I could have ever expected. My new home is beautiful, warm and friendly!”
